RETRO TELEVISION HAS BEEN SWITCHED ON
Wednesday 8th November 2006 at 12:30 pm

Well, at last!  Here it is.  We have moved into the age of video hosting, and this first feast of retro television looks just totally awsome.  None of us were really interested in looking at television ads, but when they age a good twenty years, they come to light in a whole new perspective.  When you go through them, look at those incredible 80's hair styles, particularly the lamb short cuts one from 1986-1987.  Out of the batch below, that one stands out to be the best.

I've used mp4 video format, as it takes up minimal band-width, yet doesn't kill too much of the picture detail.  Much of this stuff comes from VHS, which would explain the poor resolution.

You-tube has come with a lot to offer, unfortunately the same can-not be said for the video format they use.  Flash is incredibly difficult to back convert to mpeg2 or avi, which is why I'll never use it on this site.

The videos can be played in Windows Media Player 8, and Apple Quicktime 7.1 or later.  There are some links below to download these players, plus a link to a program which will help you convert mp4 into mpeg or avi.

If you wish to convert the mp4 files to avi for archival purposes, then MP4Cam2AVI  can do it.  The program can be downloaded from this site,  http://mp4cam2avi.sourceforge.net/

Though somewhat pricey, Sony Vegas+DVD seems to be the easiest and quickest way to do any kind of conversion, video editing and video recording.  http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/products/product.asp?pid=404

Channel 10 pre-program promo  -  taped during January 1987.  -  DOWNLOAD

This was taped just before Bill Collin's Friday Night Movie.

Channel 10 pre-program promo  -  taped during March 1988.  -  DOWNLOAD

Peters Drumstick unbeatable ad  -  taped during March 1988.  -  DOWNLOAD

I couldn't pass up on that double choc!

Genuine Cheezels  -  taped during March 1988.  -  DOWNLOAD

Very clever ad scripting here.

Lamb short cuts  -  taped during March 1988.  -  DOWNLOAD

With the tune, "I know what girls like", that radio sitting on the side, and ugh!, that hair style, you can not go past this ad for that heavy 80's sentimental hit.

Smith's lites  -  taped during March 1988.  -  DOWNLOAD

This ad had the best scripting ever.  Whose idea was it to blow the bags up and pop them :) :)  I remember seeing the long version of this ad, when watching Patrick Swayze in "The Road House" at the cinema.  It was one of these forgettable "one star" flicks of the 80's, hence I remembering the ad more then the movie.

Tea and Maria  -  taped during November 1987.  -  DOWNLOAD

Hmm, no thanks, I'd rather have a bottle of Tab Cola instead.  The television stations seemed to have hammered this one from about 1985 to about 1989.

Original Telecom  -  taped during May 1989.  -  DOWNLOAD

From the good old days when it was in public hands!  With a great rendition of John Farnham's "you're the voice", the photography and editing was first class.

Toohey's  -  taped during November 1987.  -  DOWNLOAD

I've never had one in my life, no wonder I still feel so young :) :)

Tourism Victoria, C'mon  -  taped during May 1989.  -  DOWNLOAD

Great catchy tune

Original Victoria Bitter  -  taped during March 1988.  -  DOWNLOAD

When everybody was drinking this, I was getting into the Leed Lemonade.
